Urban Astronauts, innovative workshops and pop up cinema comes to Doncaster for the DNFestival does Space this July.
Right Up Our Street are excited to announce our next big event: The DN Festival...does Space. Join us in Doncaster on Saturday 28th July for an out of this world programme of creativity, performance, workshops and new commissions.
Head to Sir Nigel Gresley Square and discover the Big M, a giant inflatable space hosting some exciting goings-on, including our pop up space cinema where we'll be showing some of your favourite space themed films on the big screen.
We're thrilled to welcome back Doncaster's own Cre8ive Dance, who are partnering with us to host our first Family Space Rave in the Big M to kick off the festival morning with a BIG bang. If you haven't heard of family raves before, expect a fun, morning party for all the family - from the little ones to the big kids!
Right Up Our Street's continued relationship with Without Walls Associate Touring Network means we're lucky enough to be bringing some of the country's best outdoor art to new places. Sticking with our otherworldly theme, we welcome the innovative dance theatre 'Urban Astronaut' by Highly Sprung and the beautifully post-apocalyptic 'The Wheel House' by Acrojou.
Our festival programme includes some stellar performance including the playfully interactive 'Space Rebel Princess' by Fully Booked Theatre, the scientifically musical 'The Black Stuff' by Lioness Theatre and 'Mirror, Mirror', a brand new walkabout piece by one England's biggest learning-disabled theatre companies, Mind the Gap.On top of this, we welcome the return of previous DN Festival favourites Wet Picnic, with their hilarious new street show 'Suitcases'.
As with all our past festivals, empty spaces within the Village at Waterdale Shopping Centre will be reimagined and shop units will be taken over by curiosities and fascinating participatory activity. 'Robot Space Troop' by Forest Sounds Theatre will create a shop of interactive robot radios, 'Music from Outer Space' will turn a whole shop wall into an intergallactic instrument with artist Nick Lewis, and ‘Reaching For Space’ - led by local artists Jenkinson-Parks - will develop new songs and words created in a free workshop and performed at the festival on the same day.
There will be lots more to announce very soon, including pop up spaces and activity from local partners Cast and darts and organisations from across the borough. To pre-register to attend and for updates and new announcements click here.
