Anyone looking for inspiration for love poetry for Valentine’s day could have popped into ‘Interiors’ in Mexborough on Saturday 13th February and they would have seen their coffee shop transformed into a ‘live theatre of love,’ organised by Ian Parks and Paul Dyson.

Each lady received a rose and anyone purchasing a valentine’s gift received a free heart and an original poem of their choice to slip into their card.

Ian Parks, described by Chiron review as, ‘the finest love poet of his generation’ read chosen love poems from his own collection and a selection of other poets. The audience were serenaded by Alan Wood, a romantic start to a wonderful afternoon. This was followed by members of the ‘Read to Write’ group reading their own poetry including Paul Dyson’s ‘A Parisian Encounter’ which raised the audience’s heart rate followed by Bill Lawrence singing a version of Ronnie Corbett’s song ‘Fancy You Fancying Me’ which had the audience laughing out loud. The group read to a packed room.

It was a memorable and moving day with a mixture of emotions. If you missed this event look out for up and coming events of the ‘Read to Write Group’ at ‘Interiors’ fast becoming the place not just for the amazing goods it sells, but also for a centre of artistic events.
