Peter Olding Lights Up Mexborough High Street by Lesley Merrin

23 Mar 2016 by rachelr

An excellent day in Mexborough with Peter Olding as Artist in Residence. He was a star, painting for four hours non- stop. Also engaging people about his work and travels through Europe which were the subject of many of his paintings. We are all really grateful to Pete for sharing his knowledge and expertise about his different painting styles. Special Thanks to Ian Parks and Paul Dyson for all their hard work organising the event.

It was an interesting day for all art lovers and although cold it was heartwarming to see the interest that Peter inspired with his views of Rome and Paris, plus his paintings of the high street.  Peter said that the most heartwarming thing was that lots of passersby appreciated his work and were heard to say it is lovely to see things like this happening in Mexborough.

To follow this event up there will be an artist trail through Mexborough which will last a month.  Local artists have submitted painting relating to Mexborough and certain shops have agreed to display them.  Peter’s work can be seen within the next fortnight at Jaqs Picture Framing Shop on Main Street. This event is also organised by Arts Coordinator Ian Parks and Paul Dyson. Do take the time to follow the trail as it shows the talent that exists in Mexborough.  I think you will be surprised by the standard of the work.
