The Doves of Doncaster

2018 will mark one hundred years since the end of World War One, and our new Right Up Our Street commission, The Doves of Doncaster will be using this centenary to create a trail of 'doves' through Doncaster. The project will use the dove, a well known symbol of peace to unite our diverse communities through creative participation.

Throughout 2017, artists Kate Sully and Chelsea Lord, with support from Balby Community Arts (the Right Up Our Street Balby team) will be working with communities across the borough to create around ten unique and bespoke large scale doves. Once created, the doves will sit in venues such as libraries and others to create a trail of brilliant artwork made by and for the Doncaster community.

The project will continue into the centenary year, 2018 where there will be complimenting events involving poetry and spoken word in venues where the doves sit. The project will culminate in a central exhibition where all of the doves will be brought together.

At the end of the project the doves will be auctioned for their partnered charity, The Royal British Legion.

Look out on our What's On Page and e-newsletter for upcoming community and public workshops in 2017 where you can get involved with the making of the doves!
