Artist: Raymond Antrobus, Billy Read
Partners: Doncaster Minster, Deaf Explorers, XP School, Doncaster Communication College
About: This event was made up of a workshop during the afternoon with Raymond Antrobus who was the 2019 winner of the Ted Hughes Award. The group then had a break for food, provided by a local Syrian restaurant, which was first set up as part of the Festival of Light in 2018.
Before taking to the stage that evening to see what they had created. Performers included local poets from writing groups PFG, The Ted Hughes Poetry Festival South Yorkshire and Read 2 Write, followed by a performance by Raymond Antrobus with BSL interpretation from Dave Wycherley.
This was followed by a totally unique performance by Deaf dance artist Billy Read of ‘We are the Revolution’ based on a series of workshops, in collaboration with Deborah Pugh, a Movement artist. Billy and his team transformed Doncaster Minster into a nightclub and created an atmosphere for their street dance performance.
On 21- 22 November Billy Read rehearsed and tested “We are the Revolution” dance performance with pupils from XP College Doncaster, as well as pupils from Plover Primary schools D/deaf unit.
