Tell us how you were/are involved in Right Up Our Street. Tell us about your experience.
I was the art supporter for Balby for about 5 years and my role was to find out how to engage the local community into the arts through designing accessible creative activities and events. I set up Balby Community Arts 9 years ago and I am now associate artist for them and the group are still thriving and have now a track record in secure their own funding and high quality arts projects and events.
What was your most memorable Right Up Our Street moment?
The first ever Balby by the Sea which transformed the local working mens club -Woodfield into an amazing colourful spectacle celebrating the arts as well as community artwork.
Has your involvement in the project changed your approach to working in the arts?
I have expanded my knowledge of arts events and created a successful community arts engagement strategy that I now use to collaborate with Flourish Enterprise based in Balby.
In your opinion, how does having a project like Right Up Our Street benefit the borough of Doncaster?
Yes definitely
