Reyt Proud Zine

With Right Up Our Street and Andro and Eve

Images by Finn Warman

Reyt Proud zine is a new zine that shines a light on stories from LGBTQ+ people in Doncaster sharing what makes them proud. It’s part of a longer term project we’re working on with Creative Producer Finn Warman from Andro and Eve for LGBTQ+ people in Doncaster, with the creation of artwork which will debut at Doncaster Pride which is this years’ UK Pride.

This gorgeous full colour zine features the creative contributions from groups like Fit Rovers, Doncaster Youth Council and LGBTQ+ Youth Group Doncaster from their workshops delivered by our Project Manager Finn Warman, along with individual members of the LGBTQ+ community, sharing what makes them proud. Inside, you’ll also find interviews with legendary local drag queens Bipolar Abdul and Anna Popp.

The Zine was designed by Leeds based artist Jazyra Christou.

Jazyra is a Leeds based graphic designer whose practice revolves around playing with typography and lettering. Their work lies at an intersection between graphic design and illustration, often combining analogue with digital processes as well as exploring image making techniques.”

The Launch of the Reyt Proud Zine

We launched the Reyt Proud zine on Saturday 2 March in Doncaster City Centre. There was free cake, tea, creative activities and of course everyone could grab the newly printed Zine to see their contribution.

Lady Kitt visited us to begin exploration for the next phase of this project ‘Visible Rest’. Conversations and creative ideas were shared, we can’t wait to see the final artwork at Doncaster Pride 2024, 10 August, Town Field.

About Andro and Eve

Andro and Eve create unique, feel good events that celebrate queer culture where everyone is welcome. They programme and produce arts and culture that explores queer stories, focusing on voices that are otherwise marginalised, to reflect and celebrate the diversity that exists within the LGBTQIA community.

Andro and Eve collaborate with artists to facilitate accessible programmes of creative opportunities, with workshops in zine making, crafts, creative writing and drag king performance helping communities develop their skills and understanding, and share in memorable experiences.

Andro and Eve are the creators of one of the UK’s largest drag king cabarets, The Kingdom Come and their queer cabaret, A Reyt Queer Do has been lighting up the South Yorkshire scene, providing a platform for fresh queer talent, since 2017. Since 2022 they have been collaborating with Ghetto Fabulous, an arts organisation championing the work of QTIPOC creatives, and together they produced Sheffield’s first Reyt Queer Extravaganza in July 2022.
