Exciting Funding News from Right Up Our Street
We are starting the year with the exciting news that we have been given three more years of funding from Arts Council England.
“Right Up Our Street are thrilled to have received confirmation of a further 3 years of funding. Over the past 9 years, with the support of our Consortium and the community of Doncaster, the project has grown to understand the needs, values and creative interests of the people that live here and in turn have become a trusted part of their creative ecology. What a great position to continue the project from! We all have a very exciting 3 years ahead of us.” – Project Director, Sally Lockey
Huge thanks to our Consortium members for their hard work and support along the way Cast, darts, DCLT, DVAN and Balby Community Library.
DN FESTIVAL OF LIGHT 2021
In November we brought the DN Festival of Light back to Doncaster and welcomed nearly 4000 visitors back to the Minster. Artists Heinrich & Palmer created ‘The Crossing Place’. The artwork was inspired by Doncaster’s rich heritage collection and the town’s long-standing association with Natural history. The soundtrack that accompanied the projection featured sounds recorded at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
For more context on the artwork, you can watch this video on our YouTube channel. The video features an interview with the artists and footage of the artwork. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4E5q2RpCBM&t=17s
If you didn’t manage to catch the fabulous projection in the Minster, we currently have a scaled down version in the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum for you to experience. The exhibition is on until the 15th of January 2022. Check out the gallery opening times here.
DEPICTIONS OF DN
A Film by James Lockey and Musical Score by Hayley Youell
To open our DN Festival of Light we had a Community Launch. During this we had poetry readings from the Read2Write group, and we premiered our new film Depictions of DN.
Depictions of DN started as a social media campaign where we asked the Doncaster Community to nominate key workers or people who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic.
11 of these key workers were selected to take part in a film by James Lockey, which was accompanied by a musical score written by Hayley Youell. The score featured the South Yorkshire Police Band, The Doncaster Choral Society and the Swag/Swaglets Choir (darts).
You can watch the film here.
Keep an eye out for other appearances of the film around Doncaster.
