About Us

What is Right Up Our Street?

Right Up Our Street is a community-led Creative People and Places arts programme funded by Arts Council England.

It brings brilliant art activities and events to the people of Doncaster.

It works in partnership with Doncaster’s communities, listening to what they need and want, and co-creating an arts programme that is relevant and meaningful.

From poetry to performance, film to radio, sculpture to design, technology to physical activity, Right Up Our Street and Doncaster’s local communities make all sorts of inspiring art, with activities happening in exciting ways and taking place in surprising locations.

Our Consortium Members

The Consortium’s role is to guide the programme of activities and events and make sure that Right Up Our Street is delivering its aims.  It is led by DCLT’s Chief Executive Officer.

DCLT operates leisure centres throughout Doncaster, including The Dome, the region’s premier sports, leisure and entertainment venue, connecting with thousands of local people everyday. DCLT has increased its portfolio of venues including being the parent charity of Cast - Doncaster’s world class performance venue - as well as the Counting House, Brew House (Cusworth Hall) and The Leopard. DCLT has now also become the host body for Doncaster’s Culture Change project, Doncaster Creates. A three year programme developing major strategic and national work.

darts continues to be one of the largest participatory arts companies in the country with 30 year’s experience working in depth with communities throughout the Doncaster Borough. darts makes high-quality, inclusive, creative experiences across the borough of Doncaster, programmes are open to everyone, particularly those who have the least access to the arts.

darts' purpose is for anyone in Doncaster to learn and connect by taking part in the arts, the charity's mission is for everyone to feel an accepted and valued part of the community, creating a healthier and more connected society.

Cast brings a raft of knowledge, skills and a world class venue to the consortium. Working with Right Up Our Street, Cast has brought a number of projects to the region, including Global Streets which attracted over 12,000 audience members.

Cast complements large scale events and performances with relevant outreach programmes, ensuring the inclusion of local community performers and improved access for audiences.

DMBC’s advice, guidance and access to staff and facilities have enabled a number of Right Up Our Street activities to be successfully delivered. During Phase 2, DMBC carried out a major piece of research to better understand the contribution that the arts can play in improving the social and economic ecology of Doncaster. With the support of Darts, Cast and many others, Doncaster Creates was born. Recognising the key role that Right Up Our Street plays within this programme of work, its existing knowledge and community voice, DMBC have pledged substantial financial support to ensure the sustainability of the Right Up Our Street programme for Phase 3.

Since 2005 St Leger Homes has worked hard on behalf of tenants and residents to deliver high quality, efficient and effective services. St Leger Homes add significant social value to the Doncaster communities they serve as Doncaster Council’s award winning social housing company.

It is their mission to provide homes in neighbourhoods that people are proud to live in.

The Doncaster Inclusion & Fairness Forum has been set up by the Team Doncaster Strategic Partnership as an independent advisory group to explore and identify ways in which we can make Doncaster a fairer place to live and work.

The purpose of the Inclusion & Fairness Forum is to:

  • Increase the understanding of the challenges related to inclusion and fairness facing those who live, work or visit Doncaster.

  • Research and consult with and examine people’s views on key priorities and the impact of making significant changes to services.

  • Develop appropriate working arrangements and community pathways to enable Doncaster’s diverse voices to be heard

Right Up Our Street are thrilled to have received confirmation of a further 3 years of funding. Over the past 9 years, with the support of our Consortium and the community of Doncaster, the project has grown to understand the needs, values and creative interests of the people that live here and in turn have become a trusted part of their creative ecology. What a great position to continue the project from! We all have a very exciting 3 years ahead of us.
