Out Projects in 2018

The Great Bentley Songbook

Rehearsals Started for a brand new Right Up Our Street music theatre show inspired by the people and places of Bentley in collaboration with composer Sharon Richards, playwright Richard Hurford and Bentley Choir. Performances took place on Saturday 21st July at Bentley Library and on Saturday 28th July in Doncaster town centre as part of the DN Festival.

Balby by the Sea 2018

Balby by the Sea is a family fun event based at Woodfield Social Club in Balby. Right Up Our Street supported Balby Community Arts in delivering this summer festival by bringing high quality performers to the day.

Doves of Doncaster

We offered a free creative workshop in Rossington for all ages, where we invited members of the community to help make Rossington’s dove to celebrate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The Doves were made by people across Doncaster working with artists Kate Sully and Chelsea Lord. Marking the centenary of the end of WW1 with an image of peace.

Over the following few months there were poetry performances and workshops in the places where the Doves were positioned.

DN Festival Does Space! (Weekend) July 2018 | Sir Nigel Gresley Square and Waterdale.

Doncaster's free festival of art and performance. We had dancing astronauts, brilliant and hilarious street performances, immersive animation in a pop up planetarium, free creative workshops, theatre performances, food, music, and more! This was a day not to be missed in our town!

DN Festival of Light 2018

The Museum of the Moon by Luke Jerram

The Museum of the Moon was the stunning centrepiece to the Doncaster Festival of Light from the 16-24th November 2018. A week long programme of events took place within the stunning Doncaster Minster.

Community Groups

We continued to support Community Groups in 2018 in our key areas.

Bentley Community Choir

A fun and welcoming choir, open to anyone who wants to sing - no auditions! The choir is based in Bentley and is led by Sharon Richards.

Skillshare

Weekly craft sessions at Balby Library led by Chelsea Lord grew into the usual Friday morning session plus Saturday mornings too.

The sessions were very popular and well attended and the group often produced pieces for other Right Up Our Street events and of course Balby by the Sea artefacts.

Read 2 Write

Read 2 Write has grown into a very successful group with around 25 members who meet weekly at Balby library and has led to performances around the borough.

Our Read to Write poets performed a special and intimate one off gig at The Draughtsman Alehouse on Platform 3b.
